Ready for 2011
Posted by in NewsWe are busy getting our calendar of events organised for 2011 and the great news is – you will be able to see more of us locally! Check out our calendar, it is being updated regularly.
We had a great start to 2011 when our new website was launched and we escaped the snow when we celebrated Plough Monday at the Traveller’s Rest in Stanley.
Plough Monday is the traditional day of dance for Molly dancers, when the out of work Plough boys who had managed to get through the winter, supplementing their none existent income by dancing and demanding money, took the Plough into the Church to be blessed ready for the work year ahead.
As none of our gang are farmers or even out of work plough boys, we started our own Plough Monday tradition a few years ago of dancing out at a local pub, having a meal afterwards and maybe a celebratory drink or two… This is now a Black Dog Molly tradition we will keep alive! However, if there’s anyone with an old, out of work Plough, we can always extend our current tradition to include it!
